AMERICAN LUTHERIE #61
Spring 2000

This issue's cover is of a Clark Irish Harp owned by Cyndy Burton. The Clark "Neo-Irish" harp was a mass-produced instrument that was often used in mandolin orchestras at the beginning of the 20th century. Here's a detail of the colorful soundboard decoration.

In 1984, Geza Burghardt and his wife Tini left their native Hungary to pursue a lutherie career in Canada. In this photo, they pose in their shop with Jose Romanillos (holding a French-polishing pad). Jose was visiting them during the 1983 International Hungarian Guitar Festival. We meet Geza in this issue and see detailed photos of his "guillotine," a device for making the side slots in a classic guitar neck.
